Each item can be upgraded to its highest level for a given slot at a time. Then upgrades to the slot will be cheaper. The pity system, introduced in The War Within, also reduces the extreme variance of upgrades.
Upgrades
Upgrades are components that improve performance or add new features. Upgrades can be bought or earned through a variety of methods, such as through in-game events or cash shop items.
Upgrades are only available to specific items. Unlike enchantments which can be applied to any item but upgrades can only be applied to the item they are attached to. Weapons, for instance require more Valorstones and crests to upgrade. There are however some cash shop items that could lower the cost of upgrading.
